New Leaf focuses on evidence based and engaging content for professional growth, confidence and competency in your social work skills. To foster this level of growth, you as the learner, must actively take the time to read and reflect on the course content.

New Leaf has selected readings that are current, challenging, offer a new perspective on the populations social workers serve and provide you with tools and skills to better serve communities and our clients.

1) Review the program summary and course objectives to pick a course that is interesting. This will help you stay engaged in the reading and quiz. You can read the CE description, article and preview the quiz. When you are ready, create a free account.

2) Find a friend or colleague who is also interested in the topic and have coffee date to discuss.

3) It can be helpful to print articles so that you can take notes or highlight. Active notetaking will help you remember information for later use in your practice, but also to complete the CE quiz.

4) Learning is a process. To complete a New Leaf CE, this learning process includes reading the required article(s) and passing the quiz with 80% or higher. You can also participate in the optional virtual journal club discussion.

5)  While reading the CE, the following are some questions to consider and be critical:
‣  What do you already know about the topic?
‣  What preconceived notions do you have about the topic?
‣  What new opinions do you have or have your opinions changed?
‣  What new action can you take after completing the reading?
‣  What new information can you share with your colleagues or populations that you serve?
‣  What ethical issues or dilemmas does the topic address?

6) To help recall and apply the CE content in your practice, write 3-4 bullet points highlighting the main idea and answer the question “how does this benefit me?”

7) The quiz is open book and you may print it while completing the reading. There is no time limit to complete the test. The quiz is not designed to be tricky or to write essays. The questions are based on content directly from the reading.
